Andromeda is the closest spiral galaxy to our own. And by closest, I mean it’s 2.5 million light years away. Which is pretty far. Considering light travels at 299,792,458 meters per second or 186,282.4 miles per second that means that the Andromeda is around 14.6 quintillion miles (14,696,575,500,000,000,000) away. That distance is too great for our human brains to fathom.
And then you think, that’s the closest spiral galaxy? Yes, yes it is. That is how big space is.
(Credit to the internet for the specific numbers, I don’t have those memorized.)
